New Zealand Scouts LogoNew Zealand Scouts have setup an appeal to aid the Earthquake victims of Christchurch.  Sponsor a blanket costs about £4 to get blankets to the devastated town.  If you would like to sponsor a blanket go to the New Zealand Scout Website or follow the links on Scouts.org.uk.

I would not usually put something like this up, but since two of our Scouts moved to New Zealand in the last month I thought it was more closer to home to our Scouts.

Active KidsThe Active kids vouchers from Sainsburys has almost finished for another year.  Please Please try and collect as many as possible before they stop giving them out on the 8th June.  Remember to bring them along to a scout evening and give them to your leader or place them into the box in the Scout Hall.

This is a fantastic opportunity for us to get some new equipment for the Scout hut without having to pay anything 🙂

We will be deciding shortly what all the vouchers will be going towards.  If you have any ideas talk of equipment that you would like for Scouts evenings please talk to Skip.

The North Baddesley Scout Group is holding a fundraising Quiz Night on Saturday 24th April at the Scout HQ, Queens Ride, North Baddesley. It starts at 7:30pm.

Come and enjoy this ‘not too serious’ quiz. (How could it be with our Cub Leader as Quizmaster!) Everyone is welcome. The quiz will have questions in each round that appeal to both adults and older children. There will be games available in a side room for younger children.

The cost is £2 each or for a little more we can serve you with Chicken, Fish or Sausage and Chips during the interval if you choose. Money can be returned to Scouts evenings.

Don’t forget to bring your own drinks and nibbles in case you get peckish before the chips arrive. Its also worth bringing some pound coins if you’d like to enter the true or false prize round or the raffle
Suggested table size is 8. If you come along as a smaller group, don’t worry, we’ll be able to put you into a team with others on the night.

SwimmingHot off the press the District Badge-Splash event has been announced.  The event will be taking place on 27th March 2010 from 5.15pm to 7.15pm at Totton Recreation Centre.  This is a great opportunity to gain that next level in your swimming badge and following the badge work there will be time afterwards to play in the pool with floats and inflatables.

You may have received a swimming award last year. Well now its time to have a go at the next stage. Or if you are really confident you can miss a stage out. Just let us know on the form which stage you want to try. The requirements for each stage can be found at http://www.scoutbase.org.uk.

The cost is £3 payable in advance (return with the form). You will also need a £1 coin (returnable deposit) on the day for the changing room lockers.

Forms will be given out at the next Scout meeting on the 21st February.

Active Kids15th North Baddesley Scouts will again this year be collecting Sainburys Active Kids vouchers.  This enables the group to purchase from a catalog new / improved equipment for free.

The vouchers will be started to be given out with shopping on 17th February and end on the 8th June.  There is now a collection box at the Scout hut to leave your vouchers in.  Please please collect for the Scout group because it enables us to get equipment that we may not be able to afford otherwise.

Also a quick reminder if you have old empty printer cartridges or mobiles then they can be brought to the scout hut for recycling.  The group gets money for this recycle again helping towards the running of the group and its also good for the environment.

ClimberAfter last term’s successful climbing trip to Mountbatten, we are looking to organise a couple of other sessions at Mountbatten to complete the National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS). This is a UK wide scheme designed for ages 7 and upwards, providing structure and motivation for new climbers to develop there skills.

The course will be run over 3 sessions at Mountbatten school, the dates are currently Tuesday 20th April, Tuesday 27th April and Tuesday 4th May. The sessions will be run by a local instructor at the school and will last for 1 and half hour each. The cost of the course will be £25 and will cover all safety equipment, hire of hall, and the qualification.

To make this viable we need to have at least 16 Scouts attending the course. If its not possible to get that number within our troop we will open this up to other local Scout groups in the local area.

More information will be given out on Monday night
